About this movie

From director Joe Wright comes “Pan,” a live-action feature presenting a wholly original adventure about the beginnings of the beloved characters created by J.M. Barrie. Peter is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily and a new friend named James Hook, Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

Everything in this film was awful. I like the idea of a Peter Pan origin story, I like the concept of him and Hook being former friends, and Peter's ability to fly because he was half fairy was a questionable but neat idea. But this movie just flops on all accounts. Not even halfway through the film and I quickly lost interest. In fact, this is the first movie in my life where I began looking through my phone. I didn't even buy this, I saw it in theaters. I am here to warn others of this trash.

All I need to say to describe the movie is, DESTRUCTION. This film totally destroyed a classic masterpiece. Because for one thing, Tiger Lily is not a warrior, she is an Indian princess. Number two, Captain Hook was always an evil villain. And number three which is the worst, where the hell did they get the idea to put Edward Teach (Blackbeard) in the movie he wasn't even in any part of the original story. So anyone who thinks this is the best you need to learn to read.

It is a mismatched blend of Peter Pan with...I don't know what. Tiger Lily was a travesty. The charcters don't resemble the source material in any way. I like new takes on old stories but this was awful. I keep seeing reviewers call this visually stimulating but the colors are over saturated and chaotic and the cinematography is all over the place. Pan's arc is poorly planned and the ending was a poke in the eye. Watch the Jeremy Sumpter Pan or Hook if you want a live action version of this tale.
