About this movie

From director Joe Wright comes “Pan,” a live-action feature presenting a wholly original adventure about the beginnings of the beloved characters created by J.M. Barrie. Peter is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night,Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There,he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago,and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily and a new friend named James Hook,Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

No.1: I will always consider P.J. Hogan's "Peter Pan" as my favorite film adaptation of the original novel. And No.2: I respect everybody's opinions on movies, no matter how soft or hard. But the truth is that this film won me over, and it was a rip-roaring surprise. The idea of making a sympathetic origin story about Peter Pan is unique, and the premise is compelling; It tells us the origin story about a young boy named Peter Pan who is kidnapped by pirates arriving to Neverland, meet new friends, and eventually finds his purpose as the hero that we all come to know and love. Kids and adults will learn about the former life that Peter is experiencing, how he discovers Neverland, and how the legendary characters first meet each other. For a unique and modern take, "Pan" is pure entertainment at it's finest, and I loved it. The craftsmanship by Joe Wright (director) and Jason Fuchs (writer) is what makes the entertainment value irresistibly strong; the action is exhilarating; the combination of the brilliant ideas, the memorable imagery, and the slick editing offers high-energy and razor-sharp impact. Most of the comedy is frequently amusing; the switching tone and the quick escalations are the prime suspects that make the comedy succeed. The visuals makes "Pan" a wonderful effects-heavy extravaganza with incredible effects. I must mention that some of the dialogue is so clever ("the lair of the dragon"). One of the major assets if John Powell's invigorating score, and most of his music is sprightly; during the action/dramatic sequences, the music is rousing, during the more gentle moments, the music sounds tender, and during the pathos, the somber piano plays. Because of the fun performances delivered by the cast and the spectacular set-pieces, the nature of it's entertainment value strikes an impressive balance between unconventionally cartoony and seriously dramatic, so that it can delight both kids and adults. The performances are not too childish, and they are not stupid either; they are giving their characters personalities that are faithful for the sake of the feel of it's original source material, and the fact that Neverland has beings with flashy souls. Throughout the film, the characters offer strong messages that involves friendship, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. Levi Miller is great as the title character himself; he is a charming and sympathetic lad to care for, and he is a quick-witted and confident hero to root for. The friendship between Peter and Nibs (Lewis MacDougall) is agreeable. Garrett Hedlund plays James Hook; Now, I do have a problem with him: sometimes he lies deliberately, and he considers it to be a grown-up thing. Regardless, he is a clueless gentleman, and he can be a tough nut as well (if you know his personality in the novel or in other movies). yet he has some decent character development. Adeel Akhtar is quirky as Sam Smee. Rooney Mara is fantastic as Tiger Lily, and she is not a damsel-in-distress; she is a no-nonsense warrior who is a strong supporting female with excellent choreographic tricks. Hugh Jackman is truly entertaining as Blackbeard with his theatrical, campy, and wicked performance. As an evil villain, he is a ruthless and dastardly jerk. For me, Jackman's Blackbeard is much better than Hoffman's Hook. So, does "Pan" match the quality of P.J. Hogan's "Peter Pan" from 2003? Well, they should've just improve James Hook by subtracting his bad habit of lying. In conclusion: The kids (age nine and up) and adults will have a blast with "Pan" as it will appeal to them as both lighthearted family fantasy escapism and resonant storytelling. 4.5/5 Highly Recommended!

Just disappointing, what a shame {sad face}, I really wanted to enjoy it but maybe some fairy dust is required before watching. The idea has potential, maybe in a future time someone with a more childlike imagination can try again...
