About this movie

Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great And Powerful, from the director of the Spider-Man trilogy, follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics. When Diggs is hurled away to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot — until he meets three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams), who aren't convinced he's the great wizard everyone's expecting. Reluctantly drawn into epic problems facing Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it's too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity — and even some wizardry — Oscar transforms himself into the great wizard and a better man as well. Not being familiar with the original Wizard of Oz books or movie, I can't make a comparative review. However I thought the story was well thought through, albeit a little predictable. I can't say I was overly taken by James Franco's acting though. The CGI was well done but then that's pretty much required nowadays. My big gripe however is the obsession with Edison as the inspiration for Oscar to prove himself. Surely if you're going to take someone who came ever so close to being a true wizard, and who was contemporary to the story, you would pick Tesla

A much awaited prequel that makes sense and prepares the way for viewing the original "Wizard of Oz" movie, starring the late, great, Judy Garland. This movie tells the story of the "Wizard" himself, and how he came from Kansas to the wonderful land of Oz, long before Dorothy. The story is well written and acted out in a sympathetic manner by all involved. For all who are young at heart and enjoy watching the much maligned original, I wholeheartedly recommend this movie.

This was a shame. It fell short of invigorating any kind of interest in the story it was trying to retell. I was hoping the great cast on offer would provide an enthralling and entertaining film but it just didn't happen. worth praying though. not worth paying for.
