About this movie

The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard), taking a toll on both their marriage and Kateメs fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that thereメs something wrong with Estherラthis seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Estherメs sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too lateナfor everyone.

A surprisingly impressive film. I expected a basic popcorn horror, with a supernatural vibe like Omen. But, actually, this is more a dark thriller, with the occasional horror element. The cast were all on form; Isabelle Fuhrman who plays Esther (who was only 10 years old at the time) and Vera Farmiga, both give a spectacular performance. The reveal toward the end, makes it less creepy but more sinister. It wasn't until after watching that I found out it was inspired by true events. Recommended!

Best film I've seen in a while. It slowly builds up the tension and keeps you guessing!, It's quite nasty in places where you don't expect it to be.

All fine up until the end. It's incredible what they try to pass off at the end, what they expect you to believe. It just shuts the creepy up in one foul sweep.
