About this movie

Inspired by the powerful true story of a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Academy Award®-nominee Felicity Jones), On the Basis of Sex depicts a then-struggling attorney and new mother facing adversity in her fight for equal rights. When Ruth takes on a ground-breaking case, she knows the outcome could alter the courts' view of gender discrimination. Stronger together, Ruth teams up with her husband, Martin Ginsburg (Armie Hammer), to fight the case that catapults her into one of the most important public figures of our time.

Fascinating and highly entertaining film. However, if you want to learn about Ginsburg's political struggles and achievements, you'd be better off watching the equally exceptional RBG. What this film does best though is to put a human face on Ginsburg's life story, and in many ways this serves as a perfect companion piece to RBG. Jones is amazing, as always, and Hammer is... freakishly tall. Sure, there's a fair amount of dramatic license, but ultimately this movie captures the heart perfectly.

Absolutely wonderful movie! Highly Recommended! Interesting and cohesive plot line that doesnt drag, but still let's you care about all the characters. The last 30 minutes of the film are in a courtroom and I usually find such dry, but this time, I was glued to every second and literally ready to cheer. In an age of the dumbing down of all media, it is such a delight to see something intelligent that also manages to be interesting with perfect pacing.Wish there was more!

Fact-checking is fun! Reuters: "Bader Ginsburg was arguing in the report for a broader, gender-neutral definition of rape. The passage that her critics cite as evidence she favored lowering the age of consent is actually a quote from a proposed Senate bill, not from Bader Ginsburg. The focus of Bader Ginsburg’s argument was not on the age of consent, but on removing an antiquated definition that assumed only women could be targets of sexual assault."
