I've only seen this movie once. I was thirteen, 1968, and we took a school trip to a new mall (which is gone now I believe) in Overland Park Kansas . I loved the movie which was a surprise being the age I was at the time and a dislike of musicals up to that point in my life but this movie changed all that. It's one of the last good memories I have from that time. Good movie.

It draws you in to feel the rawest of a once desperate situation. Child Labor laws weren’t passed until 1875, so poor kids were sold into slavery as young as 4. This movie captures the desperation of everyone and the depths people had to go to just to survive.
