Having read the book before watching the movie, I can't help but be "that critic" for a moment and say that there were a few key points in the book that could have been shown in the movie to add some more depth to the characters. (more back story on Stormy would have been nice) However, the cinematography was excellent, the main story line was well represented, and the ending was fantastically done. The story alone is worth watching or reading!

The story was great but poorly told. The movie has an overuse of narration, it lacks chemistry between Odd and Stormy, and the visuals are uninspired and SyFy. The actress who plays Stormy delivers a very flat performance and it leads to scenes where her and Odd deliver lines on each other's heels, which is an acting no-no. The tale is a supernatural action detective tale, but the director fails to tell a successful action story or a successful detective story.

My wife and I have been wanting to see this for a while after seeing it on Netflix. I have to say we were both impressed! We had a few minor issues with it (some super speed hot wiring in particular), but we enjoyed both the story and the surprising ending. This is one of those films that made me want to check out the book series, which hasn't happened in a while. My wife also mentioned how she'd like to see more of this, like even in a TV series format.
