Not One Less

Awarded the Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice Film Festival, Not One Less, directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, is a touching story about learning and determination. When an elementary school teacher in a rural province of China is forced to take a leave of absence, he appoints a 13-year-old schoolgirl to take his place. But before he leaves, he admonishes her to make sure his students stay in school despite dwindling attendance. With the teacher's words still firmly in her mind, but only a vague idea of how to be a teacher, she goes to great lengths to keep her promise.
