About this movie

On a quiet city block in the coastal city of Recife, ruled by an aging patriarch and his sons, a recent spate of petty crime has rattled the nerves of the well-to-do residents. One of the most interesting Brazilian films of the last decade. Plays with the genre of horror without (necessarily) being one. And the 'sound' track (both the music and the sounds of the film) are AS IMPORTANT as what you see. Slow-paced (fyi) but fascinating.

To be watched with Masters and Slaves (Gilberto Freyre) on the side, not necessarily because the film agrees with the book, but one sure dialogues with the other.
