Danny Vega
This documentary/movie would be expected to be directed with the idea of the legendary Illmatic album in mind. Unfortunately that is not the case, but it doesn't fail to entertain. This docu-movie touches the life of Nasir Jones in a biography fashion, instead of the making of Illmatic. Illmatic is seen as more of a stepping stone than the overall concept. If you like or would like to get to know Nas this is a must see. Don't watch this with the idea that all you will get is Illmatic!
Jerrell Jones
Saw this documentary at his last show on his "Time Is Illmatic" tour in LA. This documentary captures the state hip-hop was in and even the social issues/struggles happening in Black America at the time. Illmatic was more than just a hip-hop album; it told a story. Story of a people.

I thought I knew everything about ya man nas, but once again.... I'm still learning from this man, how to cultivate, how to dress sheesh. And I love Illmatic (Even though Is Was Written made more of an impact on me, personally) I appreciate his debut that much more now.
