About this movie

Two young children (Johnny Whitaker and Jodie Foster) suddenly find themselves in charge of a gentle, aging circus lion. However, when they are threatened with being split up by stern authorities, the trio embarks on a perilous journey across the wilds of the American Northwest. During their adventure-filled odyssey, they seek help in their plight from a sympathetic, free-spirited mountain man (Michael Douglas). Ferocious forest predators, a dangerous drifter, and the pursuing police make for a head-over-heels race to breathtaking conclusions in this captivating saga.

This has been a favorite of mine since it first came out. Jodie and Johnny were great together in (I want to say many, but I don't think it's as many as I remember .. probably different scenes) well at least a few shows. It was so much fun watching them taking care of problems and each other.

Both warm and depressing. The kids, especially the boy, are truly wonderful and have a good chemistry together. The valleys & mountain top vistas are really beautiful. Michael Douglas is young, like 20yo, plays an awesome, likeable character. He does a motorcycle chase that is a thrill. Both of the grandparents/actors from The Waltons are in this, which was a treat. The lion is a real lion and it interacts a lot with the kids and other animals. There is even a fight between the lion and a bear💯
