About this movie

Peter O'Toole gives a knock-out performance as Alan Swann, a booze-loving former matinee idol who is forced into making a live appearance on a variety show to appease the IRS. Mark Linn-Baker plays the fledgling writer for the show who must keep Swann on the sober and narrow. MPAA Rating: PG (c) 1982 A Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved

As another review stated I did hear based on Sid Ceasars Show Shows the Benji charecter is Mel Brooks and Swan is Erryol Flynn. Whatever the case totally a underated film.

This is my favorite movie of all time. Peter O'Toole does a fantastic job, playing Alan Swann, the drunken past-his-prime actor. My favorite line in the movie is when Alan says, "I'm not an actor, I'm a movie star." Mark Linn-Baker is wonderful as Benji, who must convince Alan to go through with a performance before a live audience. Alan is afraid because all his previous acting has been for movie cameras.

Actually, I would have to say it's in my top (3)... I could watch this film over and over. This is the kind of film that you NEVER want to end... Sadly, they just don't make movies like this anymore. I only gave it five (5) Stars because that's the most it would allow. Truly, it's a Ten (10) Star Film... A MUST SEE!!! ENJOY, AGAIN & AGAIN!!!!
