About this movie

Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) is a struggling father who loses his job as a voice actor for cartoons. When he throws a disastrous surprise birthday party for his son, Chris, everything takes a turn for the worse. Daniel's wife, Miranda (Sally Field), has had it with Daniel and wants a divorce. When the divorce hearings arrive, Daniel is denied custody of the children, but is allowed visitations... but seeing his children once a week isn't enough. Daniel, with the help of his friend, theatrical make-up artist Frank (Harvey Fierstein), disguises himself as "Mrs. Doubtfire," a woman of mature years, a sharp tongue, and an endearing way with the children. In the guise of "Mrs. Doubtfire", Daniel charms his way back into the lives of his unsuspecting family. But his act is too good, and complications arise... and if his act is discovered, he may be separated from his family permanently.

Robin Williams is at it again. If you don't laugh through this movie except for most of the mean role poor Sally Field had to play (I personally like her playing funny roles like The Flying Nun) you really need to see a psychiatrist. Robin is an absolute scream. Whomever it was that decided that he played this role is a genius. You'll be wetting your draws from laughter with this one. Thank you Robin R.I.P for bringing so much laughter to our world. We miss you greatly!!! ❤ ♥ ♥ 🦘 💞 💞 💞

I'm quite surprised at some of the negative reviews that Williams caught in this film on here. He has since passed on, and some may say that my sentimentality for the loss of Robin may color my verdict on the film - but I don't think so. Per example, I didn't like "The Bird Cage" because I"m not so keen on movies set in drag. Call me homophobic if you like, but I think a lot of drag movies are done for a political point, more than to tell a story. And this is exactly what Williams does in spades; he tells a warm, engaging and encouraging story about a guy who is arguably fighting against an androphobe legal system (androphobe <?> Males who women who to live off multi-million dollar alimony, yet cry loud for equal rights, or egalitarian rights), in order that these men can get THEIR equal rights and access to see their children - which is something that should only be denied on grounds of violence or paternal neglect. Mrs Doubtfile tried to make sense of what "family" meant. Divorce, he quipped, was like having your heart ripped out through your wallet. No wonder Doubtfire 2 did happen In because many have made the case for Doubtfire 2 causing the depression that killed him..

Loved this movie when I was younger, not as good now I'm an adult.
