I guess some reviewers just have a dark view of everything in this world. The story was heart warming, beautiful, and a pleasant reminder that humanity does have redeeming qualities. I certainly recommend renting if not owning this fine film. It was, as many other reviewers have noted, one of Murphy's better performances and a refreshing alternative to his usual slap stick.

What a great story. Eddie Murphy is wonderful in this role as Mr. Church. It has a classic sense about it that really makes you smile often. Pleasant and reassuring. Everyone could use a Mr. Church. Don't let this movie sneak by you and box office distribution was poor and the studio didn't work too hard to give it a chance. Steal of a movie for you and your family.

Very touching film in which two worlds come together, showing how much we all need each other. The acting is wonderful, bringing to life these characters with ease. Easily one of Eddie Murphy's best dramatic roles. Don't listen to the negative reviews and give this movie a chance.
