About this movie

Filmed over the two sold-out shows that opened the new Chase Center arena in San Francisco, S&M2 comprises more than two and a half hours of Metallica joining forces with the nearly 80 member San Francisco Symphony, lead by conductor Edwin Outwater, with a special appearance by legendary conductor and long time SF Symphony Musical Director Michael Tilson Thomas. The shows marked the first time since the original S&M performances in 1999 (documented in the Grammy-winning live album and concert film, S&M) that these two venerated musical entities have reunited on stage. The concert film captures all twenty songs performed with elaborate classical arrangements, including many Metallica fan favorites and two very unique classical pieces chosen by Michael Tilson Thomas. The film has been re-edited by the band -and the audio re-mixed and remastered- since the initial theatrical exhibition ran in October 2019, giving this version of S&M2 a whole new look and sound!

Used to love Metallica but they went to soft and James Hetfield's lyrics suck now. Not really digging anything past ride the lightning.

This is an amazing show. All the songs sound great, the band is as good as ever, Hetfield's voice is spot on, Lars's drumming was great. The highlight for me was The Outlaw Torn. That was a side of Metallica I've never seen before. The Symphony adds so much to the songs. They are amazing.

I would rather sit in bed all night with an impacted molar while listening to cats fighting underneath a car.
