The atmosphere is there, truly. The music and production design are bewitching - the script and direction are more bewildering. Kenneth Branagh's energy as an actor and director are squarely that of a Shakespearean comedy. That's his lane, and it's a fabulous lane to be in, but it is not one that lends itself to horror in the slightest. Everyone save for De Niro (who seems to stop time whenever he gets a chance to speak) is too foppish, too saccharine.

Something about the music or they way it's put together. It has many of my favorite actors but no matter how drunk I get it just gets worse.

It's the closest a Frankenstein movie has gotten to the book but it's not close enough. The story is a mess and its aged terribly.
