About this movie

Mark Felt - The Man Who Brought Down the White House centers on the true story of “Deep Throat”, the notorious whistleblower for one of the greatest scandals of all time, Watergate. The true identity of the secret informant remained a mystery and source of much speculation for over 30 years. Until, in 2005, special agent Mark Felt shockingly revealed himself as the tipster. This powerful true story chronicles the life of the brilliant and uncompromising Felt, who sacrificed everything – his family, his career, his freedom – in the name of justice.

Really good movie. I was living during this period of time and had a parent who insisted I read new articles weekly on the progression of the investigation. I don't get the low tomato meter... must be newer audience members wanting FX or something LoL. For those who were born after, if you don't know much about this period of time, Watergate, the FBI, etc., not required... but might help to read a "All The President's Men" and an FBI book like "The Bureau: The Secret History of the FBI" or whatever is currently The book like that. And/or maybe look at old news reports (not only modern documentaries) on YouTube or library. Even older TV reporting would reflect what was coming out of the Washington Post.

Covers important points about Watergate and the autonomy of the FBI, and Nixon trying to make the FBI his lapdog. However the movie doesn't address the terrible abuse of power by the FBI during Watergate, and the fact that Mark Felt clearly authorized those abuses as the number 2 man under the Director Patrick Gray. Felt was furious at Nixon for not appointing him Director.

HMM... MY MOM WORKED FOR KATHERYN GRAHAM'S HONOURABLE HUMONGOUS PUBLISHING EMPIRE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HER WOODWARD AND BERNSTEIN WERE HELD BACK TILL SHE PERSONALLY GAVE THE ASSENT TO PUBLISH MARK FELT THEIR INFORMANT KNOWN AS '.... THROAT.' IT WAS VERY SCANDALOUS, RISQÙE WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER IN '71 EVEN THE NAMES AND CODE LANGUAGE USED TO EVADE A PRESIDENT GONE EGOMANIACAL. IMAGINE THAT. COMPARE AND CONTRAST TODAY'S POLITICS, IF YOU HAVE THE GUTS. REGRETFULLY, STEVEN M
