About this movie

Everybody's welcome at Ma's. But good luck getting home safe. Sue Ann (Oscar® winner Octavia Spencer) is a lonely woman who keeps to herself in a quiet Ohio town. When a local teenage girl asks Sue Ann to buy some booze for her group of friends, she decides to make some new friends of her own and offers her basement for the kids to party. They just have to follow a few simple house rules: Someone has to stay sober. Don't curse. Never go upstairs. And call her "Ma." As Ma's hospitality curdles into obsession, what began as a teenage dream turns into a terrorizing nightmare, and Ma's place goes from the best place in town to the worst place on earth.

I enjoyed this movie. It’s not a horror movie. It’s suspense. Some parts didn’t make sense like why she was making her daughter pretend to be sick just to hide her in the house. And did Ma just move into town? Wouldn’t she have already had known her former classmates kids (minus the one whose parent moved back). This movie had male nudity which, as a woman, pleasantly surprised me as you only mostly see nude women in films. Finally something for straight women and gay men to enjoy, I guess! They also had an older woman kissing a teen character. It’s usually some old man kissing a young girl. So props to the writers and director for turning the tables. I wish I had seen this in theaters.

I watched this movie at home, and was super hyped for the movie. The plot was interesting, they could've gone farther than they did with this. The ending was lack luster. It felt like it wasn't over and that the story should've began there. I loved seeing the new faces for the cast instead of the major actors/actresses. The acting was good, not great, but still good. The plot should've started at the end and worked farther. The movie was more hyped than in the trailer, than in the movie.

I am going to give this 4 stars. For some reason the movie seemed a bit predictable. Ms. Spencer acted the part well enough to make you believe that Ma might be out there somewhere. The movie did leave me with several questions which I won’t post here out of fear of exposing the plot for those who have not yet seen the movie.
