I’m not a massive fan of the X Men or fantasy style films but this kept interested, and I really enjoyed this. Top action, good story that flowed and Hugh Jackman as always is on point with the acting side of things. Overall well worth a watch that even kept someone like me interested who never watches this style of film. A good solid 4/5 from me.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Usually, movies get better on subsequent viewing but this actually got worse. It's essentially a horror flick with more graphic violence and foul language than even Deadpool so how is it not rated an R?! What a great idea to expose kids to this (not mine, obvs, since I'm too smart to have any). And apparently in 2029, America is still racist as heck as the only black people in the movie get bullied by one set of baddies and killed off by another. And diversity in general was missing here. Newsflash for movie makers; a needless barrage of cuss words does not an edgy script make. It's lazy, sloppy writing pandering to those with low IQs and lower standards when it comes to movies. Not only is it completely out of character for both Logan and especially Charles, a lot of it happens in front of the kid - the only bright beacon in this absolute mess. And speaking of lazy writing, it has shades of Terminator (who has a better skeleton arm and did more than just wriggle his fingers with it - that scene enhanced the story, serving to give credence to Sarah Connor's claims; no such luck here) and Reeves' Superman 2 (when he fights the jerkoff version of himself), so this is an obvious patchwork of things we've seen before. And really? We're supposed to believe that ALL the mutants the world over are no more? Oops - better cook up some new ones then. As for the villains, guess their paychecks weren't that big so they phoned in their catatonic, unscary, unintense performances or maybe it was the script. As for the ultimate death scene; now, I cry easily - even if just listening to THAT MOMENT in the Big Hero 6 soundtrack: Here, I got a lil misty-eyed, but eh, not much. The lighting was decent. The girl was good. The picture goes a bit funny now and then which was odd. Bottom line: Don't believe the hype. Watch Escape to Witch Mountain and ET instead.

I didn't feel it was as good as I expected it to be, but it's still a great new take on a superhero film. Gritty, dark and brutal. I really didn't like Stephen Merchants character but that was the only real problem I had with it. A great piece of work.
