About this movie

Notorious religious satire, the film tells the story of Brian (Graham Chapman), a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd and truly hilarious circumstances providing ample opportunity for the entire ensemble to shine in multiple roles as they mock everyone and everything from ex lepers, Pontius Pilate and the art of haggling to crazy prophets, Roman centurions and crucifixion. In what was the troupe’s third, and highly controversial, film, Monty Python delivers a scathing, anarchic satire of both religion and Hollywood’s depiction of all things biblical.

Probably the best movie ever made. Never doubt that God has a sense of humour. And no, this film was never banned in the UK, don't know who told you that! The common law offence of blasphemy was declared "dead" in 1949 (although see Whitehouse v Lemon 1977) and abolished in 2008.

Now I'm a fan of most comedy, but I'm not really a Python fan. I do however love this and The Meaning of Life. I've seen this many many times over the last 30 years and watched it for the first time when I was far to young to be watching it. This is an absolute classic from start to exceptional finish!.......and I for one couldn't agree more, always look on the bright side!

Excellent. Though it is not my favorite Python film, it is splendid. The sketch structure is left behind a bit to far i fear, since it is where the group shines. Rewatchable, but Holy Grail is the better buy if you do not happen to have seen it yet.
