About this movie

Victor Hugo's acclaimed novel comes to life in this impeccably performed, magnificently filmed screen adaptation. Following the story of Jean Valjean, the ex-convict who rises against all odds from slave to mayor, and Javert, the police inspector who dedicates his life to recapturing Valjean, this vivid depiction of the poverty and social strife of 19th-Century France is profoundly moving.

At age 15, I watched this film, and it changed my entire belief system. A system that ignores the individual is more evident now, yet then, from an old film, it was as clear as day. Pictures and words, from a story well told.

It's a sad but true tale of how mankind was so merciless against mankind. This has nit changed since the beginning of time.
