About this movie

Based on the Academy Award®-winning documentary, KON TIKI is the story of legendary Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. In 1947, he and five other men crossed the Pacific Ocean in a balsa wood raft, proving that pre-Columbian South Americans could have crossed the sea and settled the Polynesian islands. After financing the trip through loans and donations, they set off on this epic 101-day journey across 4,300 miles of dangerous open water, as the world watched.

Just finished reading the book, which was inspiring and wonderful and goofy. This movie seemed too focused on adding drama to the story. While I'm sure things did get a little rough on their voyage, I really don't think this was the most interesting part. Most of what I enjoyed in the book was their process of discovery and figuring out what made the raft work so well, how to catch fish, navigate, communicate, etc. This movie could have been more inspiring.. Instead they added unnecessary drama.

Great documentary that will really flip your noodle. Can't believe the adventure these folks undertake! You'll love this if you love documentaries like I do. And I have literally exhausted the libraries of both Netflix and Amazon Prime. I should be elected to judge the Emmy's for documentaries, that's how many I've watched. I'm restarting with my favorites again. Want to join me? Look for my face in the crowd, oh, wait, I never leave my lair! Kidding, I'm 6'1" & about 380. I'm the guy with the smiling face!

Such a great story from these individuals but this movie missed so much it stole the soul from the real adventure. Time constraint is not an excuse to violate their memories. I wish there would have been smarter individuals in the making of this movie to give a proper rendering and honor those who risked it all. (DNA and other records now show Thor was wrong, but to me he proved what was possible)
