About this movie

The producer of Pearl Harbor and the director of Training Day deliver an immensely thrilling adventure epic that tells the heroic true story behind one of history's greatest legends. It is the valiant tale of Arthur (Clive Owen) and his bond of brotherhood with Lancelot (Ioan Gruffudd) and the loyalty of the Knights Of The Round Table as they fight for freedom and those they love. Also starring Keira Knightley, this spectacular motion picture fuses historical grandeur with edge-of-your-seat action and bestows must-see entertainment. © 2004 TOUCHSTONE PICTURES

Whilst Professing to be the 'true story' of King Arthur, all this movie does is deliver a dull and relatively drab action flick, albeit one determined to ram modern liberal ideology down the audience's throat at every oppurtunity. The 'truth' is really only one theory of many, and the history is muddled and confused (Pelegius died decades before Germannus), and many details laughably inaccurate. What on earth are Woads meant to be? Woad is a plant: the Britons and Picts were never referred to as such. Some details were verging on the blatantly racist: there was literally no reason or historical basis for depicting the Saxons as proto-Nazi racial purists, other that some absurd modern xenophobic stereotype about Germans. The shots of Stonehenge in a movie meant to be set in the North of Britain near the wall was a geographical faux pas worthy of the equally silly Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Need I even mention Keira Knightley running around in blue paint wearing only a leather Bikini and digitally enhanced cleavage at the end? One of the most memorable moments, for all the wrong reasons.

Meh, it's ok if it's on the TV for free but I'd hate to pay to watch it, even charging is an insult. I like Clive Owen, Ray Winston, the guy who plays Hannibal and even the "baddies" but if it wasn't for the new twist in the Story and decent action scenes it wouldn't be watchable. More a two and a half, still can't beat the old one that sticks to the legend of the Holy Grail with proper magic from a proper merlin.
