About this movie

Yashvardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) lives a very wealthy lifestyle along with his wife, Nandini (Jaya Bachchan), and two sons, Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan). While Rahul has been adopted, Yashvardhan and Nandini treat him as their own. When their sons mature, they start to look for suitable brides for Rahul, and decide to get him married to a young woman named Naina (Rani Mukherji). When Rahul is told about this, he tells them that he loves another woman by the name of Anjali Sharma (Kajol). Yashvardhan decides to meet with the Sharma family, and finds out that they are middle-classed, unsophisticated, and will not be able to it into his family circle, as a result he refuses to permit Rahul to marry Anjali. A defiant Rahul decides to leave, gets married to Anjali, without his foster parents blessings, and re-locates to London, England, where Anjali's unmarried sister, Pooja (Kareena Kapoor Khan), also lives. Rohan, who was studying in a hostel, returns home to find that Rahul is no longer living with them...He then tries to bring father and brother together...Its all about Loving your Parents (CBFC U CIL/1/69/2001-MUM).

A full on Bollywood classic with all the elements that make this a great story. The title fits: sometimes the movie is happy and sometimes the movie is sad, but I would also add sometimes it is funny since there are many amusing moments. there is a lot of music scenes that fits well and tie in with the story, rather than the typical adding filler. The genre of darama-musical would truly fit. Amitabh and Jaya play the perfect rolls as parents with Amitabh being strict father and Jaya being a loving mother. Shah Rukh and Hrithik work well together as brothers with neither dominating the movie. Kajol plays a great wife to Shah Rukh's character. Kareena's character is laughable and she suits the roll well as a dippy spoiled girl on the prowl for guys. Rani Mukerji was hardly in the movie so don't watch it just for her, but her small role works with the initial story plot. The dialogs are memorable and the story keeps pace with no boring moments. If you are looking for a classic Hindi movie, this one will not let you down.

When I first fell in love with Hrithik Roshan. (sigh) lol Warning, it is an older movie and runs long. If you arent used to it, it may seem like it takes forever. But! The story will definitely keep you on your toes. Cried like a baby and im sure you will too. Lol. SRK + Kajol = Bollywood magic

Yes I suppose if you're someone who's into masala films you'll probably love it. But honestly to be fair the film is a huge drag and although SRK and Kajol are great along with Hrithik and big b, the story is what makes movie ultimately underwhelming. Of course one of the only savings grace is the incredible music/score by legendary Jatin-Latit Bros.
