About this movie

March, 1918. C-company arrives to take its turn in the front-line trenches in northern France led by the war-weary Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin). A German offensive is imminent, and the officers (Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham Tom Sturridge) and their cook (Toby Jones) distract themselves in their dugout with talk of food and their past lives. Stanhope, meanwhile, soaks his fear in whisky, unable to deal with his dread of the inevitable. A young new officer, Raleigh (Asa Butterfield), has just arrived, fresh out of training and abuzz with the excitement of his first real posting – not least because he is to serve under Stanhope, his former school house monitor and the object of his sister's affections. Each man is trapped, the days ticking by, the tension rising and the attack drawing ever closer… 2017 Journey's End Films Ltd/The British Film Institute

Very accurate representation of the original play as far as I can tell. Very good special effects, nothing looks faked. Story line is sad, but realistic. Acting is good. If you are interested in World War One then go ahead and give it a watch, but if you are not interested in the British side of WWI then I'd skip this one. Not very much action, compared to other action movies, which is quite representitive of real life war, but not so interesting to watch.

British ' film of the play' Low budget feel movie , where the actors have to and indeed do put in great performances in order to make the thing watchable . Blimey ..was German artillery really that accurate all of the time? The part of 'The postman' at the end was possibly deserving of an Oscar.

Amazing acting but not the best war film I've seen, but maybe I'm being a harsh critic. I loved it but I did think more could be done. Maybe if they made it longer they would have developed everything a bit more, it just seemed a bit short and quite a lot of it was set in one room. However, saying that I would watch it again, but I'd have to remember a pack of tissues next time!
