About this movie

The Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice Broadway collaboration gets the Hollywood treatment from director Norman Jewison with a format inspired by Shakespeare's "Henry V." In this version, a traveling troupe performs the rock opera in the Israeli desert. Texas rocker Ted Neeley stars as Jesus with Carl Anderson as Judas. Webber, Andre Previn and Herb Spencer shared an Oscar nomination for Best Score Adaptation.

It probably could reach today's young generation more so than any of the other magnificent Jesus movies. The actor that played Jesus made it real. I didn't give it five stars because it's not realistic, of the time Jesus walked on this earth. Although it is different it is a good movie. And several times throughout the movie, I had chills/goosebumps.

He's portrayed in a condescending way --- plus it's very dated. Although stylized, and the lyricist / composers are masters, I wouldn't recommend this movie as their finest works.

Anybody who is really saved and really knows the Lord would not watch this horrible perversion of the Word of God. Borderline blasphemy! Please read your BIBLE and do not watch this!
