Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal operative drawn out of the shadows. Not much in the way of dialogue, let alone character development. Expect an hour or so of hurried walking through crowds as the protagonists look backwards over their shoulders nervously, interspersed with fight scenes. The producers don't seem to have bothered to do much research on the computer science either; at an early point in the film the sentence "use SQL to corrupt their databases" is uttered. For the uninitiated, this is the rough equivalent of saying "use words to have a conversation".

The original trilogy was great. The spin-off was OK... but this feels just unnecessary. The plot is weak, very contrived and reuses lots of plot points from the second movie, so much in fact that you spot plot twists coming a mile away. The new characters feel flat and one-dimensional and especially Alicia Vikander's role feels out of place and without purpose. Good car chase though!

I wish I could give this a higher rating, I really do. Unfortunately this doesn't feel like a new Bourne. It feels like a rehash of all the best bits from the first three. That might have worked if they had only had a plot that could tie it all together in a solid and believable way. This never happens. The plot itself is thin and seems to have been added to give Paul Greengrass and excuse to throw as much Hollywood action on the screen as possible. The action is dull. We've seen it before. The hand combat fights are the same as what we've seen before. They're less exciting now. Just frantic camera work. The car chases, which were epic in the other films, looks like someone played GTA V with all the cheats on and decided to make a film about it. No matter how much I like and respect Matt Damon, I can't like this film. Sorry Matt!
