About this movie

Academy Award®-winner Natalie Portman stars as Jane Hammond, a woman who has built a life on the rugged western plains with her husband Bill "Ham" Hammond (Noah Emmerich of "The Americans") and young daughter. When Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after a run-in with the relentless John Bishop (Ewan McGregor of STAR WARS) and his gang, she knows they will not stop until her family is dead. In desperation, Jane turns to Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton or BLACK MASS), a man from her past, for help. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.

Enjoyed this! Story is told deeply and well without tons of dialogue. Which mirrors the rugged and essential life in the old west. Feminist? Maybe. But I think it shows the human spirit at its essence - good and bad. And all the shades between!

A film more focused on relationships than a bunch of gun fights, though it does have its share of violence. I really appreciated its perspective on life in the West for women and men alike. Glad I rented it and glad I watched it.

I don't know why people are rating this movie with anything less than five stars. It's a really well done classic western with the same type of action, acting, writing and ethics of a John Wayne or Randolph Scott oater. It was a typical good vs. evil, the bad guys were bad and the good guys were good. What could be better? Nice action scenes, nice vistas, plenty of horse action and shoot-em-up. I'd recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a classic horse opera now and then.
