About this movie

The third installment in the widely beloved Spielberg/Lucas Indiana Jones saga begins with an introduction to a younger Indy (played by the late River Phoenix), who, through a fast-paced prologue, gives the audience insight into the roots of his taste for adventure, fear of snakes, and dogged determination to take historical artifacts out of the hands of bad guys and into the museums in which they belong. A grown-up Indy (Harrison Ford) reveals himself shortly afterward in a familiar classroom scene, teaching archeology to a disproportionate number of starry-eyed female college students in 1938. Once again, however, Mr. Jones is drawn away from his day job after an art collector (Julian Glover) approaches him with a proposition to find the much sought after Holy Grail. Circumstances reveal that there was another avid archeologist in search of the famed cup — Indiana Jones' father, Dr. Henry Jones (Sean Connery) — who had recently disappeared during his efforts. The junior and senior members of the Jones family find themselves in a series of tough situations in locales ranging from Venice to the most treacherous spots in the Middle East. Complicating the situation further is the presence of Elsa (Alison Doody), a beautiful and intelligent woman with one fatal flaw: she's an undercover Nazi agent. The search for the grail is a dangerous quest, and its discovery may prove fatal to those who seek it for personal gain. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade earned a then record-breaking $50 million in its first week of release.

Last Crusade is the best movie in the Indiana Jones franchise. Harrison Ford reprises his role as the beloved Indiana Jones, along with other returning actors such as his good friend Sallah played by John Rhys-Davies, and the lovable yet daft museum director Marcus Brody played by Denholm Elliott in an action packed adventure to find the cup of Jesus Christ. Sean Connery joins Indy on this quest playing Henry Jones, Indy's father, a wise mentor who aids his son to stop the Nazi's from discovering and taking the Holy Grail from it's resting place by piecing together the clues from ancient christian relics. With its wonderful visuals, thought provoking christian messages, and breathtaking score, this movie is truly one for the ages. All of the characters are wonderfully scripted and the entire story feels alive with humor and lots of action. The Last Crusade truly is my favorite Indiana Jones movie and one of my favorites of all time just for its wonderful story, remarkable characters, and heartwarming christian references and themes.

There is no action cinema icon more mercurial or screen worthy than Last Crusade's Indiana Jones. Spielberg, Ford and Connery team-up to create a sequel that not only stays true to the series' conceits, weaves fresh comedy while raising the bar for action set-pieces but also ties up the themes of pride as masculinity, fathers and sons, greed versus integrity and a life spent in the pursuit of fortune and glory.

The final installment in the original trilogy of Indiana Jones films, is the best in my opinion. I loved all three of them through and through but there was just something about this one. The opening 11 minutes has one of the best back stories ever, Sean Connery as Indy's dad was great and the two made one of the if not the best cinematic pair ever, the movie also contained multiple great action scenes, including the tank part and the motorcycle scene. Filmmaking done right.
