Rife with cliches, poor writing, pointless subplots and excessively over the top special effects in place of actual story line this film genuinely is barely watchable and laughable at best. It is tolerable solely for being a sequel to the first film with the same actors reprising their roles but feels very much like a B movie remake of the original. Of all the wide ranging issues this film has perhaps the most ridiculous is that the alien attack happens 20 years later to the day just for the sake of making it happen again on 'Independence Day'. At no point does anyone question how an intergalactic space faring race just happened to show up on the exact same day on a calendar they would have no knowledge of, using an arbitrary planetary date system which would have no meaning for a race of aliens and really that alone shows how cheesy, cliche and ridiculous this film is.

One star is all it gets from me and thats me being generous. I was so looking forward to watching this especially after the first Independence Day but what a huge disappointment. The acting is terrible and the whole setup of this movie was more like a hundred years from the original and not just a few. The first Independence Day was a classic sci fi and this had a lot to live up too but it doesnt even come too it.

Awesome Movie! watched it through 6 times now, was excited about this release as I was for any Star Wars or Star Trek Movie! I Know many will look beyond the excitement and see that this film is a salute to the "YEEHAA Whoopin ass" genre, but in this instance, I think it's the best of that genre to date, as a follow on from Independence Day 1996, which I also still enjoy, the sequel has had 20 years and you really get a feel from the 20 years gap in this movie, not only in 'their timeline' but ours to, with the level of graphic visual detail being quite literally mind blowing and with many of the former stars still being awesome, Goldbloom etc, I really rate this film, and it's release has been a nice stop-gap as we Sci-Fi nuts await Star Wars Rogue One which is out around Christmas. "WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!" ... HUZZAR!! :o)
