I enjoyed it, glad I rented it, but it wasn't memorable. Solid acting from everyone except the right hand of Gerald Butler's character - maybe that was the writers fault though, he was too pushy in an unrealistic and incessant way. The Russians were a little too simple - not enough back story. Also, the villianizing of Russian's is cliche and overdone.

If you are into Fantasy, it's a great film. STOP HERE, if you don't like spoilers. Things in this film do not make sense. How can you be in a modern nuclear sub and not be able to detect a sub that is 50 yards away. the film is suspenseful but the premise is not based on 2019 technology. It's based on Technology for 1966 so it was hard to watch. There are so many improbables in this film that it's hard to take seriously. However, if you like fake news and just want to be entertained it's good. the acting is pretty solid. the suspense fine.

May not be a top notch Hollywood blockbuster but still damn good entertainment. Filled that need for a decent submarine-based movie and while the story pushes on the plausibility, it never becomes too silly. the acting while not 5-star is competent and the attention to the military details is convincing with some really good action. One of those movies I would watch again.
