About this movie

Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared - leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah's wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan - and the closer they get, the deeper they're all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined. © 2012 Hates, LLC. This is a good example of the thriller genre: it keeps you tense and wondering what will happen next. Plus, the performances are good, the story is well-thought out, and the back story is as good as the story we're watching. It also has some of the typical tricks of this genre, such as the heroine being a little too brave at times, the protective mother and the daughter who won't listen, the cop who enters danger without a back-up, the trap door, flashlights not working, events happening in a cellar, the sweet, quiet, misunderstood but mad killer. But no complaints, well worth the $4.99.

This movie is good, modern example of a more modern psychological thriller/suspense genre of film. Great acting performances by all the cast, especially Jennifer Lawrence (the star of the film), in particular! A couple of deeply effective, chilling, adrenaline-activating scenes, too. I highly recommend watching this movie! This movie should have been promoted more at the time of its initial mass theatrical release (Fall 2012). I think the film's viewership is too concentrated w/ J. Law fans rn.
