About this movie

Set in 1892, HOSTILES tells the story of a legendary Army Captain Christian Bale, who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief Wes Studi and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow Rosamund Pike whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and vicious outliers that they encounter along the way.

I don't care what anyone else says, this is a great movie! Finally, this year I witnessed a fantastic script, great casting, a storyline, startling action, and impeccable pacing. Also, Christian Bale never disappoints! If he is in a movie it's worth checking out. He takes acting seriously and I love his body of work. Every actor in this movie did a fine job. There was superb cinematography and this movie had a talented director with the name Scott Cooper. I will go on IMDB and look for more of his work. To all of you who were part of this project, thank you for caring about your audience and presenting us with great cinema!

Perhaps for those with short attention spans expecting a shoot em' up bang bang experience this may not be the best choice. Of course it has those moments but it is not the focus. This is a story about the human spirit, the difference and similarities of people, how we handle loss and the horrible price we place on each other. It is a well written, directed and acted movie with incredible cinematography and attention to detail. If you are after a true mix of complexity, feeling and action this is for you

As a student of history one realizes that there are always two sides to every story. As it was, and as one wishes it was. Sometimes, stories are written to show the faults on all sides and to help people wrap their heads around the concurrent beauty and brutality in humanity...in all of us. This story isn't perfect, but it does what I believe it set out to do. To show that we cannot erase the painful chapters of the past nor redeem what has been done to others by doing something honorable and good in the present. But we can still be honorable, and we can still do good. And we can remember them.
