Clive Barker definitely delivers with this original concept of a horror film. Being based on his novel "The Hellbound Heart", with some changes. Hellraiser has atmosphere, horror, psychological, sexual & beautiful images all rolled into one. Frank & Julia may be the villains of the film but it's the distinct images & overall presence of the Cenobites (Especially "Lead Cenobite" who would later go on to be know as "Pinhead") that really draws the audience to this film. Kristy is a good female lead as she isn't the screaming damsel in distress yet she isn't the one to start fighting back right off the bat, she falls somewhere in between. Hellraiser although not as popular & criticaly acclaimed as it's contemporaries at the time's first outings (Halloween 78, Nightmare on elm street 84, Texas Chainsaw 74 etc...) it holds up on its own & to an extent might be up there with Nightmare 84 to be the most original concept to produce an original designed horror icon in Pinhead. All in all final rating - 4 stars!

WARNING this review contains SPOILERS! This is another fine Clive Barker tale. This movie as most of you know is based off of Clive Barker`s book Hellbound Heart. Anyway onward with the review. The movie starts out with the main villain Frank who is a sex addicted man who wants to get a new pleasure. He goes into a shop and buys a box of black and gold aka the puzzle box. He then goes in the attic lights candles and solves the box summoning the cenobites. This is a movie for all horror fans to see!

I've always liked the special effects work that they do in older movies more than computer generated imaging and this has some great examples.
