About this movie

Haunters: The Art of the Scare is a heart-warming and heart-stopping documentary about how family-friendly haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme horror simulations. What kind of person dedicates their life to turning other people’s nightmares into reality, and how far is too far? Explore the rise of terror as entertainment, by going behind-the-screams and into the lives of Shar Mayer, legendary scare actor, Donald Julson, a traditional boo-scare maze designer, and the infamous Russ McKamey, as he creates the most controversial full-contact haunt of all time… in his own backyard. Also featuring John Murdy (Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights), Jon Braver (Delusion), Josh Randall (Blackout), Eric Lowther (Haunted Overload), Bruce Stanton (Reign of Terror), Sylvia & Jen Soska (American Mary & GSN’s HELLEVATOR), Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare) and many more talented artists.

Avoid watching this at all costs. What could have been a solid middle-of-the-road documentary about some home haunters is tarnished and completely ruined by the footage of McKamey Manor. THERE ARE SCENES OF TORTURE, of people being pushed well beyond their own limits. There isn't just a single scene, to illustrate a point of how far some people go....there are countless graphic scenes of people being treated inhumanely, and it is tasteless, upsetting and honestly irresponsible. Both the filmmaker and whoever hosts this film, are irresponsible to promote this film without proper disclaimers. This is not the "heart-warming" piece of cinema that the description claims it to be. It is absolutely misleading. The footage of McKamey Manor is too far and people need to be aware of it. I can't imagine if my child had happened upon this. I'm still affected by it, and I'm a 32 year old man. Stay Away!

Wish I could get a refund. Half the movies about Russ from McCamey Manor. The rest is about the owners of other haunts. It's not really about haunted houses or "the are of the scare". Rather boring

Excellent movie. Very informative. I already knew about a lot of these haunts but I felt I came out knowing even more. Especially from the perspective of each of the haunters.
