About this movie

Nineteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway production Hairspray to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy features a remarkable collection of talent including John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Nikki Blonsky, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago), and director Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House). The new screenplay for Hairspray was written by Leslie Dixon (Freaky Friday, Outrageous Fortune). MPAA Rating: PG

Hairspray was by far the best musical I've ever seen. It was unique, fun, up-beat, and made me feel good when I watched it. The actors were such talented people when it came to singing and dancing and just acting in general. Hairspray was so well made and I enjoyed every single second of it. Nothing can top this one-of-a-kind musical! All I ever want to listen to now is the Hairspray soundtrack! The songs are so well-written and performed, and I really love singing and dancing along to them with my sister who loves this musical just as much as me. When the last song came on, I would get a wave of sadness because it was over. Hairspray is the best!

The original movie is a classic. The original musical was a blast. This is a train wreck. Watching John Travolta in drag is one of the most painful things I've ever seen. I'd rather have my wisdom teeth pulled without anesthesia than ever have to watch this again.
