About this movie

When media-savvy members of the Satanic Temple organize a series of public actions designed to advocate for religious freedom and challenge corrupt authority, they prove that with little more than a clever idea, a mischievous sense of humor, and a few rebellious friends, you can speak truth to power in some truly profound ways. As charming and funny as it is thought-provoking, Hail Satan? offers a timely look at a group of often misunderstood outsiders whose unwavering commitment to social and political justice has empowered thousands of people around the world. An inspiring and entertaining new feature documentary from acclaimed director Penny Lane (Nuts!, Our Nixon).

The Satanic Temple has been instrumental in challenging the religious right's hold on the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the US government. It's time to flush out the Christian agenda in order to have just governance in this country. If that means using a non-theistic religion to troll those who would like to make the US into a Christian country, so be it. (PS - The Satanic Temple has been recognized by the IRS with 501(c)3 status since 2019 - so there!)

A well-rounded doc on modern Satanism. It goes into depth on what The Satanic Temple is and is not about and why 100,000+ people around the world are choosing to become Satanists. Intelligent, funny, serious, enraging, heartbreaking....this movie will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and give you a solid baseline of understanding on what the commotion is all about.

A fantastic documentary. Cleanly crafted, great storytelling, compelling interviews, and super fun. I was able to see a screening and theatres, and I'm absolutely going to purchase this film. The audience that night was laughing and cheering; the Satanic Temple has surely got it right. They're a far cry from the LaVey Church of Satan, and this film makes sure that people have a much more clear view of what they do, and why they do it. The cast of characters is never boring, and their stories are told in a way that really makes you feel like you're getting to know them. Can't recommend it enough, and expecting that this film will win a lot more awards in the future. A great example of the simple fact that you can do good in your community and the world without God. Hail Satan!
