I see why some rate it 1 and some 5. To me, it almost feels like it should be a series and each of the 4 plots given more attention. Anyone that said it had no plot would have to say the same of Game of Thrones because the same technique is used here to tell many stories that all tie together. I found it endearing and just funny enough. I can't explain what made it quite so enjoyable and I won't call it brilliant, but I really liked it.

If you're looking for coherent plot you may be disappointed. Instead the Coen brothers have turned in a deliciously varied and inspired collage of 'set pieces'. From Doyle's riotously awkward turn as 'dust actor' to drama ingenue, frankly one of the most tightly written and impeccably played comedy scenes i have ever enjoyed to Scarletts 'fish ass' mermaid with an attitude....actually I 'll leave it there because the list is exhaustive. You get the feeling the Coen brothers had in mind some of what would be some of the funniest scenes in cinematic history and decided upon who would be the best carriers of the characters.

I believe it was marketed as a slap stick comedy - because that's what makes people file in at the ticket counter. If you didn't do any research on the movie, you may have been poorly misled. The characters were fun, but I got bored and sleepy very quickly. I love Coen movies but this movie was not for me.
