About this movie

HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic he single-handedly rescued the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was injured by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour, which is the highest military honour in the US, awarded for personal acts of valour above and beyond the call of duty.

One of the best portrayals of WW2 and the brutal Pacific battles to come out in this decade. Fantastic actors and an amazing true story is told of one man who refused to shoot anyone but saved almost 100 men on hacksaw ridge. His faith in the Lord was depicted well and I liked that they showed that as the main reason he would not kill. Andrew Garfield took this film to a new level in his portrayal of a man who made his motto "one more". God bless him

zero character development, predictable story line, unrealistic war scenes, two dimension characters, and a whole lot a standard movie cliches. This movie tries very hard to tug at your heart strings but fails. Save your time and watch a better war movie such as Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbor, The Pianist or Fury. 2/10

The depiction of war was decent (blood and gore), but the rest of the production seemed a bit cheap. Anybody could replicate the majority of the film in their backyard by digging up the grass and using a smoke machine. I feel like the story would have played out better in a book, and I hate reading books. The redeeming part about that though, is that it's based on a real story, and they had the real guy on film at the end.
