About this movie

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star in this heart-pounding thriller written, set in the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with Clooney as a veteran astronaut in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving the two completely alone -- tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

If you don't have high expectations for the movie you may enjoy it for the special effects which were hard to appreciate on my small screen. The movie starts with George Clooney unrealistically whizzing around the space shuttle with his MMU playing country & Western music. Sandra Bullock is already hyperventillating which she somehow maintains through out the whole movie at which point I'm wondering why the director didn't choose some other less known actors for the role. You can see the director occasionally wanting to include artistic moments but its quite a fast paced movie and he would have been better editing those bits out. But the film is already quite short. I guess he was trying to show he was a serious director and not making a Paul Greengrass action movie which is what it was. Would have been better if Paul Greengrass had directed it. Either way I've seen worse and gave it 3.5 starts for the special effects and it was entertaining if you don't take it serious.

I fell asleep while watching this in the cinema! I've got to admit, I was really looking forward to this film and I was excited that George Clooney and Sandra Bullock was paired together for this. But about 30 minute's into it, yawn! And then, I'm off to dream land. The reason for this is simple, I was waiting for the character's personalities to develop and some sort of script to come into place...but it didn't happen. I loved the realist picture, it was amazing and that's why I gave it 2 stars but it was not 5, due to the lack of script and lack of personality given to the main actor's. I may watch it again, as I may be too harsh but for now, 2/5

The film had very little in the way of story line, in fact you can write the story line in just one sentence actually (I won't because of spoilers). There is absolutely ZERO character development, the only decent character is the one played by George Clooney and even then it's a limited piece involving some "in" jokes between him and Houston. The script or more specifically the dialogue (it should be monologue as the majority of the film is Sandra Bullock on her own) was written by Alfonso Cuarón and his son which is the root cause of the character problems as it it bland, very bland, if it was a spice it would be Flour. It contains nothing memorable and is primarily made up of phrases like "I'm going to die" or "Keep it together". In summary it was as if Alfonso Cuarón and his wrote this transcendent piece of crap as an excuse to film Sandra Bullock walking around in her panties for a couple of hours.
