About this movie

In a sequel of sorts to Purple Rain, the artist formerly known as Prince struggles musically with Morris Day for control of the nightclub that the two co-own in this dramatic musical fantasy. There is the power of faith--in oneself and in a higher power. There is the power of love. There is the never-ending struggle between good and bad. And there is the power of music. Graffiti Bridge.

Prince's music ministry, much like everything Prince did, was misunderstood and most people won't catch on to the undercurrent of Prince's perspective until much later in life. If you watch both Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge, you get a better understanding of the man himself, his purpose and message through his music. Everything you ever wanted to know about Prince is in these movies. They are good movies with intriguing plots and story lines but GB wasn't edited or promoted well; transitional scripting wasn't as smooth as Rain. Looking at Graffiti Bridge as a stand alone film, as Prince had originally intended, instead of giving in to to pressure from WB to make it a sequel to Purple Rain would have been the better choice. Or more transitions within the film to better explain subtext and character development. Still, I love this movie as much for the music and scenery as for the story. Especially knowing details of Princes personal life written in his memoir. Again, what is in these 2 movies are sparks of what influenced Prince too become who we knew him to be. See also Under the Cherry Moon for a fresh take on a Bing Crosby/Bob Hope style comedy - only Prince and Jerome Benton could pull off. This one, also, only gets better with time. I still find one liners I've overlooked. Add Prince's 4th film Sign of the Times ... a phenomenal concert/ movie. The best rock operas were made by this man, buy them all! Then get his albums, CDs .and see/own every live concert video you can. All of them!

This movie truly has a message for humanity. Out of all that I have experienced in my life this movie to me is a reflection pool of what I believe to be a written message for everyone in that no matter what another does to you in action or thought YOU CAN FORGIVE, YOU CAN LOVE EACH OTHER and move onward towards being a HEALED LOVING WORLD no matter what race, color or creed because WE ARE ALL A "GRAFFITI BRIDGE" ... A RAINBOW OF 7 LAYERS OF LOVE, take care, SingMia.

The music, of course is classic. Prince never ceases to amaze me. Hats off to George Clinton, Mavis Staples and Tevin Campbell (not bad for 12 yrs old) not to mention Ingrid Chavez. If you're a Prince fan, you'll love the music segments! Prince is #1. That's all I can say.
