About this movie

Following Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, his investigation into sex abuse in the Catholic church, Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney (HBO's Taxi to the Dark Side) turns his gaze to Scientology in Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright. Gibney profiles eight former members of the church of Scientology, whose most prominent adherents include A-list Hollywood celebrities, shining a light on how the church cultivates true believers, including their experiences and what they are willing to do in the name of religion. 2015 GC Productions, LLC.

Excellent Film from Oscar winning documentarian Alex Gibney. It is about what Scientology is and how they treat their followers. It calls its self a religion but it gets everything through blackmail and deceit. It interviews many of the people that were very high up in Scientology but left them due to how they treated and how they treat their family memebers. It also delves into the life of L Ron Hubbard and how Scientology became what is it today.

I was hoping this documentary would dig deeper considering the run time. But it's still well made and well worth watching.
