About this movie

A stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of free solo climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream:scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock — the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park — without a rope. Renowned filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin capture the death-defying climb with exquisite artistry and masterful, vertigo-inducing camerawork.

this is a great documentary but its not a great climbing film , i much preferred Dawn Wall which focused alot more on the climb itself it was filmed with more detail & cinematography . Honnold obviously didn't want cameramen nearby during the ascent which is understandable but it does detract from the film & feel like the climb itself was tacked on to the end .

I am still recovering. Alex is incredible. He is the ultimate anti-celebrity. There is no game. There are no whoops or high fives. He is an extraordinarily driven man and the film explorers this. But Free Solo is also about filming the climb. It is a brilliant documentary and most definitely deserves the Oscar and the surrounding praise.

Nerve-jangling,edge of the seat documentary .Stunning cinematography places the viewer right at the heart of the climbs whilst bearing witness to the greatest daredevil feat of sporting endurance ever undertaken by a human being .
