The movie capitalized off the name and had nothing to do with final fantasy. The character's facial features changed in every shot and the "rules" the phantams work by change for utmost convenience. For example sometimes they can go through walls other times they need to destroy it. The movies plot structure was shoddy and quite predictable. Over all this movie got 2/5 because its a crappy movie but the animation was great. Everything else sucked badly though

My favourite FF movie of the three (Kingsglaive 2nd, Advent 3rd). Yeah, the story was shoddy, but the premise was good. Earth's strategy revolving around the belief they were fighting alien invaders only to find out later they were not invaders at all. The Gaia theory really stuck with me all these long years since the movie was released in 2001, so that's saying something right there about the power of the message. The CGI still stands the test of time, and I love the tech.

Simplistic and predictable but dramatic and moving just the same. Absolutely gorgeous graphics that are still rarely equaled sixteen years later. And a uniquely poetic and dark theme song. Really ahead of its time.
