About this movie

Nothing else has ever looked or felt like director René Laloux’s animated marvel Fantastic Planet, a politically minded and visually inventive work of science fiction. The film is set on a distant planet called Ygam, where enslaved humans (Oms) are the playthings of giant blue native inhabitants (Draags). After Terr, kept as a pet since infancy, escapes from his gigantic child captor, he is swept up by a band of radical fellow Oms who are resisting the Draags’ oppression and violence. With its eerie, coolly surreal cutout animation by Roland Topor; brilliant psychedelic jazz score by Alain Goraguer; and wondrous creatures and landscapes, this Cannes-awarded 1973 counterculture classic is a perennially compelling statement against conformity and violence.

I could only remember little bits and parts of this as the first time I saw it I was a little kid and my parents had taken me to the drive-thru movie theater. I was so young I could barely remember just a little bits and pieces and obviously could not understand it. For some reason this popped into my head and took me all day of searching until I found it. Bizarre video! Just bizarre. If you're looking for something truly different, you found it!

I still have this on VHS dubbed in English. Best movie of all time. I've been hoping for an amazing director like Guillermo DelToro to remake this for the big screen, but with live action. It would absolutely blow up in theaters.

Ii bought this on VHS in the 1990's for $5 cad. Why its 15 now is ridicule. Castwa encule! Its the only VHS I kept, regreqtbly I gave up the original star wars and twin peaks saga but kept this. I still bought it but I'll regret when I'm sober and still laid off from covid19
