About this movie

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

A good watch for when you're really vegged out. Don't expect too much if your logic setting is on high. It's set in the HP universe (which is awesome) but stars next to no black characters (which is depressing given) it's in turn of the century America. The racial disparity of the times and women's lack of rights aren't covered at all (in favour of the usual 'mistreatment of magicals by humans' as an allegory for racism/anti-gay discrimination instead of actually tackling those crucially important issues head on). The other bothersome thing was the whole cute pinup lady falls for chubby no-mag (stand-in for the stereotypical nerd who doesn't exist IRL?) gent thing. On the plus side-pretty great acting, lots of great creatures, and its the HP universe so thumbs up.

Great acting by all and beautiful to watch. I was surprised by how good it was. It was a bit bizarre even if you have read all the books and seen all the movies. In my opinion it could have been even better.

amazing characters, creatures and storytelling. some parts of the movie drag on a bit, leaving for an awkward 5 or so mins of unnecessary stuff, particularly right near the end. besides that, great film, definitely recommend to any fan of the Wizarding World
