From Kathryn Bigelow, the award-winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, comes the gripping story of one of the most terrifying secrets in American history. John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) plays a Detroit security guard caught in the crossfire after a late-night police raid sparks a wave of violence that spirals out of control.

The title and the trailer is misleading. I was expecting a movie that showed how the riots transformed the city. Instead it's a just a bunch of cheap scenes trying to get a reaction. But I grew up around Detroit I've seen way worse than anything this movie showed. (add crack). I don't get it am I supposed to feel bad or am I supposed to get off on watching black people get beat up and shot. I don't got time for this. Stop halfway through.

Well..., it is a almost clever, one sided race bait movie. This movie is based on a true story however you can clearly see which side funded the movie. You feel that the movie is 'steering' your emotions instead of you allowing the movie to have an unbiased perspective an allow the viewer to come to their own appreciation. Even though it's star studded the movie is a race trap.

This movie doesn't shy away from the violence that happened that night. For that, I give it praise, especially with some of the reviews for this movie trying to downplay the subject matter in the movie. Starting from an arrest that give fuel to the fires of the 1967 Detroit Riots, showing the days before the night, the movie reaches to the night of July 25-26, following the story of the nine occupants in the Motel Annex as they were brutally beaten and tortured, with the three killed.
