About this movie

Director Tim Burton brings the cult classic series "Dark Shadows" to the big screen in a film featuring an all-star cast, led by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. In the year 1750, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from England to start a new life in America, where they build a fishing empire in the coastal Maine town that comes to carry their name: Collinsport. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet...until he makes the grave mistake of falling in love with a beauty named Josette DuPres (Bella Heathcote) and breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death-turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time. MPAA Rating: PG-13 © 2012 Warner Bros. I like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, but this movie wasn't all that great. The first 10 minutes seemed pretty promising, but the movie comes to a slow down after that. It wasn't a very funny movie with a slight chuckle now and then. I'm confused as to where Danny Elfman actually contributed to the music as his name was in the credits, but honestly I felt the movie had a distinct lack of music and I think that made certain moments weird or somewhat forgettable. If you've seen the commercial you have seen it...

This movie reminds me exactly why I love Tim Burton movies. It has very rich story telling for a large majority of the movie with tons of action for the better part of the end. There are lots of moments which were rather unexpected which kept up the overall interest in the movie. Although it may not be for everyone, Tim Burton fans should not be disappointed. Like other reviewers state, this is no Twilight at all, and it's not entirely an comedy either. There are lots of funny moments, but the entire movie is not funny, it has an odd serious atmosphere, if you can believe it...

I purchased it on blue ray for my kids who are huge Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fans. They really liked it. I allowed myself to fall asleep so I didn't have to watch anymore. Unfortunately, I only fell asleep for about 5 minutes. The visuals, directing, and acting were very good. It was just kind of lame plot line and very predictable.
