Dark City (1998)

Dark City is one hell of a great movie, I haven't read all of the reviews, but from what I've seen I cannot for the life of me understand why no one has mentioned it's comparison to 'The Matrix'. This movie IS 'The Matrix', but it is so much more, if this came from a 'story' written by Alex Proyas, the man is a genius. At the first watch (and you hadn't seen The Matrix movies) it was a hard slog, the dialogue seemed stilted, as though the actors were 'reading from a script' there was no 'life' in what they were saying, until it dawns on you that that was exactly what they were doing, they were ALL players in an never ending scenario, in an experiment, occupants in a world that wasn't real (as in The Matrix). You have 'the One', John Murdock, who ends it all, in a much more satisfying way than Neo... Agent Smith is represented, there is also a 'Trinity' equivalent who loves and believes in our hero unconditionally. You SEE 'The Matrix' for what it truly is. Our hero develops the traits of the 'agents' as in The Matrix but in a more convincing way than just 'dodging bullets'. Ironically though, you don't appreciate the movie or 'understand' it, unless you've seen The Matrix.

Woah! What a masterpiece! That's the first film for ages that has blown me away. Genius story, incredible cast. A deeply intelligent and beautiful crafted film.

A must-have for anyone's movie libary. Simply an outstanding production, with brilliant performances by all the cast. Well worth the admission price!!!!! Highly recommended.
