About this movie

War hero General Coriolanus (Ralph Fiennes) is poised to become a powerful leader within the republic, but is out-manoeuvred by political opponents and banished. Bitter and vengeful, Coriolanus swears allegiance to the enemy Aufidius (Gerard Butler) and returns to Rome at the head of an invading army. In his directorial debut, Ralph Fiennes transforms Shakespeare's Coriolanus into a brutal tale of bloody vengeance and modern warfare. 2011 Coriolanus Films Limited, All Rights Reserved.

If you don't love Shakespeare don't watch this! because that's what this is. With his magnificent use of language & his brilliant understanding of the human animal, he never got it wrong. He knew without fail we never change, no matter what time in history you place us. Be it set in Rome or a modern world or Elizabethan England, we are still the same, with the same needs & wants driving us. This is a bloody and hard story of war, power and inequality. Throw in hero worship, patriotism, politics & a stack of backstabbing, greed & manipulation and you have a seething bone rattling attack on society in general. Put in the greatest scriptwriter you could want, brilliant cinematography and a cast you would die for & a director who understands the work and you have Coriolanus. It is a hard movie because the words are important, they need to be listened to, then the context becomes relevant. This is Shakespeare at his best! Cutting edge, grab your seat & pay attention, you're in for a hell of a ride. This is meant to make your brain work!
